Kreyolicious: How do you think your Haitian-American background has shaped you into the person you are today?
Adassah: Growing up in a strict Haitian household has molded me to be strong and strive for success. My mother always told me, “Adassah, you have to work ten times harder to earn what you want.” I’m so thankful for her because what she taught me has stuck with me and has formed me to be the Haitian beauty influencer I am today.
Without hard work and passion, I would not have been able to build the platform I currently have. I am forever grateful for her and the way I was raised.
Kreyolicious: What inspired you to become a beauty blogger?
Adassah: In 2009, I watched so many different beauty bloggers from to Aaliyah Jay to Thomas Adrianna and the list goes on and on. They were all so talented and interesting to watch. I wanted to find someone similar to me.
When I typed in “Haitian beauty guru”, no one came up! That’s when I decided it is time to showcase my love for makeup and my culture. My first video went live in 2011, and I’ve been at it since!
Kreyolicious: Do you have a fave video?
Adassah: With so many videos, it is hard to choose just one! Therefore, I’ll choose my favorite makeup tutorial and Royal Diary (the name for my vlogs). My favorite beauty video would have to be my from 2017. My favorite Royal Diary would be Going To and
Kreyolicious: What are the challenges you run into as a beauty influencer?
Adassah: The challenges I face as a beauty influencer would include remaining true to myself. In a world full of beauty bloggers and influencers, it is difficult to remain unique. I try my best to avoid comparing myself to others as well. It is easier said than done.
Kreyolicious: You been to Haiti?
Adassah: I have been to Haiti twice. Once when I was three. The story of how I returned to Haiti 22 years later is actually pretty funny. In 2016, my best friend found a really cheap flight and hotel deal to Haiti. I knew if I asked my mother to go, she wouldn’t let me.
So I didn’t ask her. Actually, most of our parents didn’t know we were going to Haiti. A group of friends and I packed our bags and went to Haiti. That was by far, the best experience of my life…Finally seeing my motherland after so many years broadened my horizons to see how beautiful my culture is!
Kreyolicious: Who would you say are your biggest creative inspirations?
Adassah: My biggest inspirations are Jackie Aina and Aaliyah Jay. I truly believe I am a mixture of the two! Aaliyah Jay captivates my creativity and Jackie Aina’s humor and pride for her culture captivates my Haitian pride. When I tell you I love Jackie and Aaliyah Jay! Jackie is my MUVA and Aaliyah is my sis, honey!
Kreyolicious: What’s next for you and the She is Royalty brand?
This summer I will be hosting my first hands on makeup class in South Florida. With Gods guidance I’ll be able to have many other classes in different cities around the world. God did not grant me this talent to be mediocre! Therefore, She Is Royalty will continue to rise and excel beyond anything I’ve ever imagined.
